Yo

The previous owner of El Gordo (my brother) now has two functioning legs again and wants to get rid of his ... hmm .... how to put this ..... completly ;) saxo vts ..... yeah that's about right. Instead he wants to get another mini,

So he's been talking with a bloke who has one. Few things wrong with it in that it needs some new doors or the currents ones patching and sorting, new ignition barrel (stone me their expensive) and final (the biggest thing) "filler on the scuttle".

I know little of body but the scuttle is a rather important panel. Sorta hold the car together to a degree and he (my brother) says that it "needs a little filler"

At what point of scuttle rust is too far. I'm hoping the bloke my brother is getting this mini off is talking about a different panel. But if there holes in the scuttle should he just leave it and walk away from it?

Cheers for any info.

Peace.

The scuttle tends to rot around the corner and under the bottom half of the windscreen seal and if it's anything like mini is/was the closing panels that help stop the spray from the road wheel rot first, allowing whats left to form a "shelf" for all the road muck to sit and rot the scuttle from the underside. So sticking some filler in there wont work and the rust will still be breading under there and come back through in a few months.

The only problem is to fix the scuttle properly you need to replace the wing/s and maybe even the front panel and then what ever else surely revels it's self while those panels are off.

And as for the ignition barrel, might be cheaper to source one from breakers.

cheap job to fix... in terms of repair panelm..... but you'll have to take the wing off too if it needs the corner replacing...

You very often find that, if the scuttle is very badly rotted at the far edges, that the flitch panels beneath have also rotted. And the job keeps getting bigger........

i know have just been there, just replaced 2 scuttle ends, two closing panels, two flitch panels, door steps, a posts...oh two new wings, a panels and front panel....this was what i thought was a quick bit of welding which got bigger and bigger, actually welding in the scuttle is easy, it's all the other bits that go with it
