Hi all I have just got a Maycom EM-27 from a friend and I am wondering what aerial is best?

Ive been looking at: http://www.4x4cb.com...2.cfm?CatID=430

I like the springer:

but at 1.6 meters it seems a touch on the big side.

Is the Springer Mini - 3 foot one any good?

Any suggestions?

Oh and I was thinking of mounting it on a bracket on the side at the back of the roof.

Or anyone got a decent one lying about?

The modulator was always the one to have when i was on the rig, although the rigid fibreglass ones are good and don't wag about.

I'm gonna plug the official supplier for SlowPatrol now - the Stockport CB centre, next to The Blossoms on the A6, very helpful and enthusiastic guys there too.

Pippy's has one on hers that works quite well. I believe it is the range you get from the height. If you are using it just in a convoy then you don't need to go to big, especially if you are mouting it on the gutter.

If you are using a boot mount then a larger one would be better i expect. Pippy has the springer one and it does look and work well. Sure she will be on later to tell you more.

Who said size didn't matter :dontgetit:

Howdy,

As JamesM said I have a springer 1/4 wave 3 foot ariel.. the dark blue one in the piccies to be precise.

I think the roof mount kit was about £8, and I have run the cable in the back window. (it leaks anyway so what the heck)

The range isn't bad actually.. I think me and hubby got about 20 miles as the crow flies.. but that was in the Fens with not much in the way!! But, for convoy it's great.

cheers
Pips

i just installed mine on a dome mount through a hole already drilled in the offside rear quarter panel. The aerial I bought with the kit was the 5ft springer, but I would NOT recommend it, as it is far too long, and wags about all over the place. In my opinion and everyone else who's seen it it is likely to have a pedestrian's eye out, or catch a passing car/lorry, particularly when cornering. accelerating or stopping quickly. On the first run out I actually saw it whip past the drivers window when i had to do an emergency stop. For the time being I have tethered it.

There are other ones which are more rigid and use the 3/8 mount. I'm not sure how springy the 3ft springer is, but the coil looks tighter so I guess its a lot less wobbly. I think I'll get a stronger one, it won't look as good as the springer i got was chrome and went with the bumpers, handles, screen trim, wipers, wheels etc, but I'd prefer it to be safe!

but it isn't rediculously bendy. i think it is because it isn't a spring type one.
