Hi, I have a strange problem with my mini at the mo, its a 1987 mary quant 998 with twin carbs and a lcb manifold (nothing else has been done to it that the previous owner told me of)

the problem comes when starting, sometimes it will give the impression of a flat battery, so i get the jump leads out and it instantly starts at the turn of the key, then it might be ok for an indefinate amount of time till it does it again.

the weird thing is the battery will still be reading around 14 volts when it wont start, ive had it where ive only stopped to put petrol in and it doesnt start afterwards.

the alternator appears to be working fine and the battery reads about 13 volts when the headlights wipers indicators and heater are on.

any help is much appreciated

thanks
kieron

Yes I'm having the same sort of problem. Check your Engine earth strap. Mine gave up altogther the other day. After pulling the earth strap off (what a B*!@*) I ended up sticking a diesel battery on it. All good at the moment (touch wood).

Give It a go.
