I have a couple of gearboxes knocking about, and I have noticed they each have a different coloured tag stuck to the diff housing. No doubt they will be giving me information, but I dont know what it is.

Does anyone know what the colours represent?

usually they are a greeny colour and have the final drive ratio written on them

just count them!, then divide the pinion gear into the crown wheel!
