Evening,

I just wanted to 100% confirm something, my LCB has come apart at the circled area. This is meant tobe one piece and is welded, is that right?

I don't have a welder and also don't particularly fancy paying £150 from Mini Spares!! :gimme: I understand that this joint will take some force from the engine rocking back and forth, but has anyone got a solution for my little quandry?

Well that joint shouldn't take any force from the engine rocking back and forth if the gearbox/exhaust clamp is tightly secured.

If it's not tightly secured due to the bolt being missing etc then your LCB is at risk of being fractured, so it'd be worth checking that bracket.

Right, so i figure i need this exhaust/manifold mount? Will these fit on all A and A+ gearboxes?

Problem is after that, no mount on the exhaust, so need one of these! The original pic of the LCB above, seems to have two such brackets on...any idea why?

After that, i will just be able to exhaust paste/tape the joint back together you think?

How much do second hand LCB's go for these days anyway?

grab the yellow pages and find a mobile welder. Cost something like £30-£40 squids.

As far as i'm aware yes, but it wouldn't hurt to check with the vendor/Mini Specialist first.

No the two such brackets are actually just there to secure the Y piece and nothing more. The actual securing bracket is the one fitted just below the union jack sticker in your picture and you can only see the rear part of it.

I believe the bracket has to be fitted (it generally comes complete with Maniflow LCB's) whilst the LCB is off the car? Well I doubt very much if you could get one on whilst the LCB is in place anyway?

Cheers Taffy, not one of those present either! Hmm.... but as far as you know, the pictured bracket is the right one?

Adam, the price you quoted was that for second hand LCB or mobile welder?

What manifold have you been looking at that costs £150?

The Big bore Maniflow LCB??Stainless steel?? Do you realy need one of those? should be able to pic up a Maniflow stage two LCB for, at the most, half that price!!

And yes, if you do not have that bracket, this is whay your manifold has broken.

Iv had two snap at exactly the same place due to not using the bracket. This time round I have the bracket on and have repaired the weld and followed it up by a strengthening section. No problems since.

I have a large bore maniflow that had the same problem; but that was due to me trying to get off the vehicle using brute force. I had a spare head lying around so i bolted it to that and took it complete to a blacksmith who did a very good repair. It didn't cost hardly anything either!

Mini Sprocket - i was only using the first one i came across for the pic, no i dont need it but never intended to buy new anyway...link if your intersted though here

I'll definately be getting it mounted properly, trouble is, if its never been there, you dont realise it should be.

Dave, i probably will pop it up at some point soon, thanks for the offer. No point in you coming down just for that though.

I have some pics. After sheer determination i managed to get the LCB off the car, the problem being i couldn't split the Y-Piece from the LCB, it looks like it has been welded on to me. Can someone please confirm that this:

-is the case
-shouldn't be the case &

what you would advise to do about it. i.e BFH or a more tactful approach?

Cheers

You calling me a weakling Bungle!? :D

Those two bttom pics are either side, so i think it may have been welded both sides.

It wouldnt be a problem, but i wont get it back in once the other piece has been re-welded so its going to have to come off!

Any ideas on that front? I would normally just wack it, but dont want it to snap/crack in the wrong place! Im being sensible for once.... :)
