The oil pump needs replacing on my 1972 Clubman 1275GT, but I'm having a bit of a job finding a suitable replacement. The existing one is a sealed unit (which according to the Haynes manual would be a Concentric), secured to the block by four bolts and has a slot drive with a flat end.
My local independent motor spares place have phoned round all their suppliers but cannot find anything identical. The best matching Mini oil pump they can find is the same size and shape, but is secured using only two bolts. The chambers on the inward facing side are in the same places but are very slightly different shapes. The slot drive is the same thickness as the old one but is slightly taller due to the slot drive having a curved shape at the outer end.
Is this normal? I've been told that you can't get oil pumps with four bolts any more, but I'm a bit nervous about fitting an oil pump with two bolts when the block has four holes!

Try minispares as they stock all sorts of Mini parts and will be able to help. Slot drive pump shouldn't be a problem at all

I had a look on the mini spares site and the only 4 bolt one they seem to do is the older peg drive type, all the slot drives are 2 bolt.
I think I remember reading why they all changed to 2 bolts somewhere but cant figure out where !

I have a dinosaur engine, one of the first 500 1275's built. My pump was also NLA. Don't loose sleep over it. Buy a high-quality pump and if necessary re-tap the block to accept the different bolt pattern. (At least one bolt should line up... use it to hold the pump in place and use a transfer punch through the holes in the pump body to center punch the location of the new tapped holes). As you noted, the important thing is to have the intake and discharge ports in the correct location as well as having the right type of drive (pin/slot/spider). Before you bolt up the clutch housing, dry-fit the parts and note any interference between it and the pump. If there is any conflict, carefully use a die grinder to remove a little material between it and the clutch housing.
