right story so far just got a mini 998 cc that has been stored since 2003 gave it a service but it wouldnt start so i soaked the plugs in fuel and it started but would only drive with the choke out and it was lumpy with the choke in it would just die

took it for the mot and the c0 reading were running lean but lots of unburned fuel (hydrocarbons) so my questions is do you think its a problem with the carb or could it be the timing it seems to have a good spark

i was going to strip the carb for a second time just to check its not that but im thinking it could be timing
the car is still at the mot station because it wont start again

shall i just loosen of the dizzy and tweek it slightly if i can get it running and see if it helps i have a timing light

what do you guys think

also could it be dodgy fuel ???

if its been stored, you need to drain the tank and put fresh fuel in, as for anything else i can't really comment but i do know fuel degrades over time.

personally i'd put new plugs in for a start...if you've intentionally soaked them then they aint going to be working as well as they should, which could explain the unburnt fuel from a dodgy spark.

its got new plugs rotor arm and cap but the only way to get it to fire was to soak the plugs with fuel im thinking its the carbs because its now popping and bangine and smoking like f**k

im going to clean the carb out again and drain the fuel system whats the easiest way to drain the tank

i may go and get some plugs leads to as i havnt doen them yet

drain fuel.

back of the car disconnect the rubber pipe that come from the tank from the metal pipe underfloor. Mine is connected right before the rear subframe on the passenger side. Disconnect the rubber pipe from the metal one and drain the fuel out.

just cleaned the carb out again adjust the co loads and it seems to have solved the problem also put some fresh fuel in it to
fingers crossed thats that

i had to adjust the c0 loads which was a supprise but its made a huge difference i can drive it now without it bogging down and of choke

It will be the fresh fuel that's helped if it's been stored since '03 without changing the fuel. Normal unleaded is only good for about 6 months storage, Supermax for about a month. Still very flammable, just looses most of its octance rating.
