hey guys, havent been on here in a while but the possibility of a new mini has made me come back =)

my dad just got a new job, and osme guy he works with says he knows someone about 20 miles away with a clubman 1275gt he's trying to sell.

apparently its got twin webbers on it, alloys, but thats all i know so far. its been said the guy who owns it is one of those people that has to have the best of the best.

anyway, apparently hes asking for about 550. its a runner and drives, has been stored for about 2 or 3 years. so if its not a rust bucket then it sounds pretty damn good.

will be getting some more info soon and will probably go look at it, and as safari on my mac wont let me use the search button, i need to know a couple of things.

i know to take a magnet and check the sills etc arent full of filler.

and i'll know what the engines like.

other than that im C**p at buying cars.

should i take a jack and make sure the suspension is all ok?

and do i rock the wheels to check the bearings etc?

basically i need to know what to look out for.

cheers,
Stef

oh yeh, always wanted a clubman as well =)

if its not a rust bucket

and its a running 1275 engine

and its got alloys

its probally worth the £550 in parts alone, so i wouldnt be worried what i found under the car or about wheel bearings etc.

Bargin price.

I would say don't bother too much about the mechanicals. If it's been stored for a few years then there may be a few things which will need replacing as you find them. Basically just check the body for rot. If the shell is solid you can work round the rest relatively easily. Just make sure you take up any carpets and check the boot etc. Anything which looks slightly suspect, make sure you give it a good poke and make sure it's not hiding things under the paintwork etc. Good luck.

cool thats what i thought.

im guessing if hes got a webber on it then he must be able to afford a stage 1 kit and maybe a head so that would be good.

i would just sort out any bits so i can drive it, then take mine off the road and rebuild it all into my dream mini.

or do it up and sell it for a tidy profit.

theres a possibility of it costing much less than 550 as well, don't have a clue why but we shall see. paid 1400 for mine!

cheers guys

I dont know if i am correct in saying this but wont a magnet still stick to sills if they have just been put straight over the top? think they are called over sills? so you need to check that this hasnt been done

the Magnet is to check for filler though.... If oversills are present, then it's a safe bet to assume the originals remains are under there too.
