Does any one have a pot joint to hand that they can measure, with some calipers, the shaft end, the bit that fits into the box???....

I bought some Cooper S hardy Spicer outputs and flanges. They are the right outputs with the bolt and not the nut with an un stepped shaft. The flanges howerver do look right, but the outside diameter of the shaft is roughly 32mm. Is this right?? I thought the Cooper S output flanges were a bigger shaft diameter??? Did the later autos with Hardy Spicers have a reduced diameter?? Is 32mm the same as the pot joint?? Should I look for the bigger output flanges, maybe being that bit stronger??

So many questions, but i was under the impression that if you wanted to use Hardy Spicers in a rod change box, you needed the Special Tuning seal covers because of the bigger shaft diameter and detent ball spring, the standard pot joint covers were too small??

O/D of brand new pot output shaft 1.03", so suggests that yours are wider being 32mm (1.1/4")

Right

Just been in the garage and shuved the flange in the hole of a pot joint box. It fits nice and snug. The actual output shaft for the spicer is bigger as the pot joint shaft doenst even engage the splines.

So it does seem that the later autos had a reduced diameter output flange that uses the later diff seal covers, because these are deffo not Cooper S.

Don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing with the weak point now being the flange shaft.

I think i'll keep an eye out for the genuine Cooper S flanges and diff seal covers.

Ah well, 1/3 the way there
