I might have the opportunity to get my hands on a pick-up in the next few weeks. All I know is that it had a lady owner, its done 30,000 genuine miles and it needs some welding. I believe it is a runner, but obviously bodywork is more important than mechanics. Are panels still readily available for pick ups (e.g rear floor etc)? I know I need to have a look at it, but i'm guessing parts like wings are common with other models.
I think I can have it for £300, and being a skint student, I need to make sure that it'll be worth it. It would be a long term project for me to learn on, but so far it sounds good
Any tips or advice?

If you can get it for £300 GO FOR IT!
They are becoming quite rare now and even one's with lots to do on are worth quite a bit.

if the miles are genuine i would be snapping her hand off and giving a big kiss as well even if the body is bit scruffy panels are not a problem,if you are going to take it on dont let it rot away a restored looked after pick up a a fine sight

For £800!!!

That was 2 years ago now. It did sort of run but it had no fuel tank and hadn't run for 5 years till I turned it over randomly and after a minute it spluttered into life.

Let me put it like this then, if you buy it then find you can't afford it. I'll buy it off you in a snap. Sound good?

........is it obvious I want a pick up?

we were working up in the wilds of lancashire last week Adam and got chatting to a bloke about minis, as you do. He told us about a place about 1/2 a mile away where there were some old minis so we went to have a look, and lo and behold theres a pickup there, looking a bit like minis84's one but with the roof caved in. There was also a van with a rear window conversion a flame and another saloon, all merrily rusting away. One of those real "arrgggh need more money and space and time" moments!
