Hi.
I've recently bought a 97 MPi.

It seems to have a couple of gremlins though.

When running at about 2500 rpm in 2nd gear (normally in heavy traffic) it tends to hiccup resulting in kangerooing. It ialso has a tendency to occassionally cut ou at very low revs, normally in 1st gear dhuring low speed manouvers.

I'm wondering if it's one of the many sensors, but having never owned a MPi before, I'm not sure where to start looking.

Interestingly, the earth lead in the boot has been replaced recently, some I'm wondering if ths was an attempt by the previous owner to cure the same problem. Might be a red herring though.
Someone also suggested cleaning the idle speed valve.

Any suggestions welcome.

I have the same hiccupy problem with my 98 mpi. I have not got round to looking at it yet, but i think it could be todo with the throttle potentiometer on the back of the throtle body. I am goin to spray some swicth cleaner in it, as i believe when that gets dirty, it does read properly sending the wrong information to the ecu, making it jump about.
I may well be wrong but it seems logical to me :P

Of course it could be my driving that makes it Kangeroooo, still need to pass me test!

Idle control sensor, on ebay about a fiver

other than that change your fuel filter and check the throttle body for wear and cracking.
