now im curious, jsut browsing through ebay the other day and i came across a maestro van 1.3 (1275cc) did a little reading to find that it was in fact an a-series, no real surprise there, but the surprise came when i looked at the pictures and find the 1275 was driving a conventional gearbox and that the engine was in backwards (manifolds at the front)
it took me a while to make head n tail of it all but it makes sense now. i was wondering if ne1 has fited 1 of these engines to a mini?? is it the same gearbox they used on the k-series or that VW item they liked using at the time in the montegos?? is it a 5 speed box?? anyone know anything. havent had a reply fromt he ebay guy yet!! i was thinking maybe a big power turbo lump thro a std box to stop worrying about drop gears so much!

Glad I read it as I knew the Maestros had A series lumps, but wasn't aware there were so many differences.
I'd started thinking about getting one as a hack / engine donor and might have wasted my cash.

Yep, same box as used on the montego, but I think with the maestro they did actually managed to fit a 5 speed, the monty only every had the 4 speed on the 1300, probably could not handle the overdrive of 5th with the additional weight, where as the maestro was a little lighter... but then again as it's the van, that'll have the 4 speed.
The conversion in a mini would not honestly be worth it, you'd find a K series would probably turn out to be easier as there's more people who have done it... the mods to fit (with gearbox) would probably be about the same...
Same as trying to fit the 1700 allegro engine with gearbox into a mini... do-able, but at the end of the day what's the point !
