The car has always been like this, it's had a new thermostat in the past and everything is reasonably new but just thought i'd ask. I wondered if maybe everyone's mini runs cold?

Is it right for my gauge to be reading about 1/4 of the way up (or less) when it's up to temperature, surely it should be hotter. Or is it that i need a different rated thermostat?

Tru removing the thermostat and see if this makes a drffrence as the neddle might just be getting stuck.

I run my 1330 with no thermostat, just a sleeved insert, and on the way to bingley, it didn't actually move off cold... The onlytime it gets anywhere near normal is sitting in traffic on hot days...
But I would be tempted to put a new thermostat in as that should keep engine temp up @ 76°C ( or what ever the thermostat is set to )

Yeah i was thinking of using a lower rated thermostat to keep the temperature somewhere near normal.

my mini now reads low and never gets above the black line(std clocks magnoilia dials) i believe this is due too my thermostat being drilled,
i put three 8mm holes around the rim of it too act as a bypass since then its never gone above the line,
the drilling is reccomended by mini mag expert book and other guides for heads with no bypass hose...

mine also reads low, i drove it around for a bit today and it was running for ages and it only just managed to clamber out of the blue section. Think my fuel gauge is up the spout to as i put a £4 in the tank and the gauge hasnt really moved (just so you dont think im tight, the mini has been stored in my garage over the winter and i just got her insured for the week so i cud take her out and give her a bit of a drive)
Check the sender spade connection in the boot, because it could have come off or the terminal needs a clean?
