i changed my plugs from bp6evx too bp7es ones on saturday and drove to bingley hall bout 80miles down the motorway.
the coil was an intermotor one.
monday i started to drive to work, (started first time) then 100yards down the road the coil died.
could this be due too the long drive @ highish rpm,
change of plugs
or just age of the coil?
ive jsut bought a flamethrower coil and dont want this to die if im at error in any way...
CHEERS!

Is there any possability that the coil is a ballasted coil used on an un ballasted igniton system???
Why did you fit a colder plug in the first place???? the 6 was the correct one, though this wont have caused the coil to fail.
Flame thrower Coil - Do you have points or electronic ignition? is it a ballast or non ballast ignition system?
It is not as simple as just fitting any coil you can get your hands one.

apparently they don't like to be shaken so a blast up the motorway could push an old coil over the edge especialy if its mounted on the engine.
the coil is oil filled (with a bit of air at the top) when shaken this areates the oil and can cause the coil to overheat. on modern cars like the fiesta where the coil is mounted on the engine the coil is epoxy filled.
i have just got an epoxy filled aldon flame thrower, which are meant for off roading.
minisport and demon tweeks both sell them.

the 1.5 ohm is meant or balast ignition but can be used for race use as the coil spends less time "on" at any one time due to the higher rpm's the epoxy coil is the same as the road one, (3 ohms) but just avoids the areriation due to shaking.

You've got me thinking now Sprocket...
I have tried the lucus gold coil with the electronic ignition, the car would start but WOULD NOT IDLE no idea why, i just got a proper coil in the end.
THe aldon flame thrower is intended for use with the Aldon ignitor electronic ignition module so I guess it should work with the metro dizzy.

I am intending to use mine with a 123 dizzy, on their website it just refers to different coil resistances 1.5 or 3 ohm
