yes, standard carpet for a SPi is red, but you never know what mistakes were made at the factory.

does the black one look standard ? have you got a photo ??

My carpet was red too, but I think black looks a lot better, so I'm buying one soon.

oh, how strange.

i know that the SPi "cooper" (not other models) was fitted with a red carpet when they were launched.
it was one of the things they changed when the general public said the mainstream cooper had gone "too" basic compared to the RSP.

they brought back a bit of luxury on the SPi including the bonnet stripes, spot lights and red carpet.

maybe it changed back to black sooner than i thought. i assumed it was on the MPi. my reference book on the early rover coopers was published in 1993 so would not have mentioned the change back...

...OK, just had a look in the "other book" and it says that black carpet came back in in June 1995 along with some other interior changes.

well i stand corrected and i apologize for giving the wrong information.

cool, i never stop learning stuff on this site :w00t:

NO, WAIT

the original question refers to a 92 cooper so i was right. :w00t:

phew, i thought i was loosing it then.

so yes, it should be red on a 92 SPi and then changes back to black from June 1995. :w00t:

shall i ask them ???

(OK, i have asked them and i'm waiting for a reply)

Personally like red carpets in a silver mini, would do; as that’s what I’ve got in my 25 as apposed the standard grey ones.

received this reply from a chap in the mini cooper register....

"Checking available info Parnell states Rover Cooper carpet colours are red in RSP, black in mainstreams, and back to red for Spi.

However, parts book is not as clear and only silver Cooper reference is a silver/black duo-tone with black carpets. VIN plate should show paint code RDR and trim code PMA. If not please advise your codes and I'll see if I can work anything out."

actually i do need some black carpets to go back in my mainstream (going standard as well) but it would have to be dirt cheap as i'm skint :'( ... again :(

there were some figures put together by a lady in the cooper register so see what colors were more popular and it turned out that the quicksilver/black cars were at the bottom of the pile.

well, popular is not the right word, i meat "more common" but I've gone blank and can't think of the propper term.

it would seem that less silver cars were made than any other colour, so i guess they are rare within their class. not sure if they are rare enough to make them special yet, but they will be one day.

When I find some red carpet you can have my black one for a few pennies, not sure if its original though as its not in one piece.

I've found a guy who does a very good carpet set that I first met at the billing show in Northampton and more recently at Binley hall, has now got a full page add in min mag.

Were he does a full 10 piece carpet set including the parcel shelf with ALL visible the edges finished with trimming the same colour or a contrasting one of your choice all for £25

Also do tailed floor mats same as carpets and can even sell you a roll of carpet for any other little trimming project to mach.
