Helo all!

I have now started building my 1380
My aim is to get 110-120bhp (fly or wheels)

I have a choice on timing...

I have pre-A-Series block, and I only have A+ Dizzy's, so I'll need to get a new dizzy...

But this had me thinking...

As I can get Megajolt & a NEW dizzy (leccy) for around the same price these days, which would I benifit from the most?

The spec of my enigne is;

MSPD Ph3 cam
1380
Rob Walker (stage3) (35.7mm Inlet, 31mm Exharst)
Running on Twin Hif4
GT 'box

This is all in a 1986 Mini Mayfair, so emmissons are needed

by the way, If I went Mech dizzy, I'll be converting it to a leccy one...

i'm a fan of the jolt at the moment... wont give anymore HP at the top end (when max advance is reached) than a correctly setup dizzy, but it makes 'low engine speed' running so much nicer and makes it far better than a distributor prior to the max advance point.

if you go for a dizzy, then you it would be best to get one tailered to the engine..

Dog, do the Jolt!

I am in the process of doing it. AlexF2003 built my unit last weekend and I'm waiting for my cheque to clear so he can send it to me (I should have it next week I think). It's a no brainer to me, the cost is similar to a decent dizzy setup. I'm going to do a write-up of it when I've fitted mine too (probably a few weeks time).

You can get kits from the likes of trigger-wheels.com for the EDIS bits and bobs, but you're better off going to the scrappy to get it all.

Yeh, I think Jolt is going to be better - as I hoped

It'll be better for the lower town speeds...

Does this mean I can cap the dizzy hole, and take the dizzy drive out now?

I was going to fit a machined blanking plug to mine, but mine is A+.

Any advantage of using it as a crank breather outlet?

Thats an idea...
As I'm using a A-Series block, rather than an A+ the dizzy clamp is a small tube, with an O ring, and one bolt holding it on...
I'm sure I can weld a breather on, or blank it completely, and see if I can fit a front mounted Rad...

Only issue I can see with using it as a breather is the volume of oil which will be thrown at it by the crank and gearbox... It may well end up as an oil trap, and thus blowing oil all over your engine bay...

im getting ready for fitting the jolt too when it arrives, hopefully next week, im gunna leave my dizzy in the hole and use it to give the timing pulse to my rev counter!! if i leave in the condensor and just remove the std coil it shud work. i know the jolt has a rev counter output just not sure how well it'll work with a tim gauge!! failing that im tempted by the breather option too!

Dog, mra minis sell both an A+ and an A blanking plug for the dizzy hole...can't remember the link off hand but google should find it, and they sell on ebay, thats where i got my A+ one from.
