Ive just had a similar problem with my new engine. Although i put it down to the engine been new/tight. I have my battery on charge, but still it turns over slowly. I have an interia starter though, whereas the pre-engaged are usually better/stronger starters.

If anyone has any ideas, please post as im watching this too.

I got mine running by connecting the jumpers off another running mini to my solenoid. Later in week, i will get it running again and see how it goes.

yeah... 2 batteries or a jump starter usually does the trick for me.... just getting tired of doing it or getting the mrs to push me down the road.... is there a higher torque starter????

there is a hi torque starter but the only other thing that can cause starting problems it the timing being too advanced!! as the starter is trying to get the engine over tdc, the spark fires and the explosion will push the engine backwards again!! bit of an arse, a points gap closing up can advance the timing enuf if its a fairly normal/high compression

Gav, I've got a working Pre engaged Starter in the Garage, let me know if you want it! :gimme:

You got my number mate, text me an offer! :D I'd check everything else people are suggesting first though as you don't want to spend money on something you don't need! :D

well... i took the dizz cap off... and bridged the solenoid with a screwdriver to see which direction it turned in and the starter turned very quickly... which was a shock... i loosened the diz bracket and turned it a few degrees in the direction of motion and viola!!!! it worked!!!!!

I'M NOW GOING FOR A VERY LONG DRIVE!!!!!!!!!

Thank you everyone for your help(and offers of new starters), special thanks to fikus01 who provided the solution!!!!!!!
