Hi there,

I am a newbie to this site but I'm hoping someone can give me some advice. About a week ago my car just wouldn't start. There is just this clicking sound as she is turning over and the battery is only at about 8v. I took her to the garage where I was told I needed a new battery, I got a new battery and low and behold after about 3 days, the exact same thing, battery appears to be dead, and there is just this clicking sound as she tries to turn over. Brought the car back and was told that it was my radio draining the battery so I disconnected it, and recharged the battery, all seemed fine until this morning and what do you know the exact same thing. As I thought it was just a dead battery again I tried to jump it, the voltage came back up to normal, but still no start and just this clicking sound as she tries to turn over. It is weird as it was fine for a few days and it seems like it when I don't drive it for a day it then has problems.
Has anyone got any ideas as to what I should be looking for or has anyone experienced anything like this before.

Firstly get your alternator checked out to see if is charging the battery. If its ok then I would suggest checking all earth leads.

if it is just clicking rather than actually turning over, it might be the soldnoid, so your battery may be fine, just a dodgy soldnoid, which only cost a tenner.

hope you get it sorted

remove, clean and re-fir the bettery earths and make sure when the engine is running the voltage on the battery is about 13.5 volts, give or take a bit!! 12.8 minimum in my eyes, if it is this low then alternator may not be charging!!
