my mini will be hitting the road soon and my 2 year old loves it, infact one of his first words was 'mini'.

I have cobra classics in the front which aernt exactly wide or big. Has anyone managed to or know of a baby seat that will fit in the cobras?

for safety, i always thought small children/child seats should be fitted to the rear.

Firstly are you using harnesses or not, if you are you can't put one in.

If the answers no then you may get a seat from the recaro range in there as the base's are narrow. Don't even think about putting a booster seat in there if he's under 15kg, thats just handing out a death sentance. Make sure its a infant seat. Take it to a halfords store and try a few seats from in store.

they changed all the laws. so a child under X age MUST have a booster seat.

I wouldn't have thought you would be able to fit any seat in them safely. Infant seats are designed for almost flat car seats, not a heavily bolstered bucket seat. Even without harnesses, you wouldn't be able to get the correct tension on the seat belts to secure the child seat properly or have the belts in the position which they were designed to be fitted. Death trap.

The law is that if a child is under 135cm they must be in a booster seat or suitibale seat unless they are over the age of 12.

Dosn't mean that you can put a 2 year old under 15kg in a booster seat as its the wrong seat for the child

I've managed to fit one into some buckets, can't remember what though. Not the best fit, was boaderline.

At the end of the day, they're your children. You'll have to determine if an ill fitting child seat is worth the risk. Personally, I wouldn't but that's my choice.

Why not take out the passenger seat and fit a standard mini seat? At least then you know the child seat will be fitted as it should be!

Why not just put the child in the back ?
Personal choice but neither my 8 nor my 5 year old have ever sat in the front
I suppose it's ingrained now, but when I was first learning to drive my mum
always caled it the "suicide seat" and x years later it's stuck with me.

i did get a booster seat which fitted in buckets and the kids were snug when the harnesses were really tight.... I checked it out with the County council road safety team and they said that it is down to interpretation as the law states that children Must be seated in a booster seat with "across the shoulder" seatbelts where fitted.... she said that classic cars wich didn't have seats belts were exempt from the law as no seat belts were fitted at point of manufacture and vehicles with rear or side facing seats are also a grey area as no child seats have been tested sideways or rear facing.. She said on a bad day a copper whould use whichever interpretation he wanted an throw the book. so....

I got rid of the bucket seats and fitted normal seats and belts front and rear. i can now fit my 2 oldest kids in the car at the same time which stops them arguing.

My daughters booster seat fitted perfectly in my Corbeau Forza's and the harnesses were just right too, she was about 4/5 at the time.

problem is that booster seats are tested and designed for use with shoulder seat belts and therefore not deamed fit for use with harnesses... eventhough they would be safer in the event of a collision.

i dont have harnesses in the mini it has standard belts plus with it being a 1970 mk3 it never origionally had rear belts and now only has lap belts so that would be a no no.

He has a recaro baby seat just now but when placed next to the cobra classics it is actually bigger than them!!

Ill swing iinto halfords but think he'll just have to look at the mini until he reaches 12.

Poor kid.
