Hi all

Ive now fitted my new engine but there seems to be a problem when changing down mainly from 4th-3rd but can happen, not as often, from 3rd-2nd. I went on a 35 mile drive in it, keeping below 3000rpm and no more than 50mph for the bedding in period and it happened about5-6 times. The only way around it was to take it out of 4th, take your foot off of clutch pedal and then back on to drop it into 3rd. It only happened a handful of times that way, most of the time i could down shift normally.

Does anyone have any ideas of what it could be?

The gear box is speced as below:

Type Rod
o/put Pot
Gears S/C C/R
Drops R-BRG
Diff X/Pin
Brgs New
C.P.U New
C.W.P 3.44

Im not sure what the abrieviations mean, ive just copied it over from the spec sheet.

Could the clutch not be going in far enough?

Im lost and really dont know what to look for.

Thanks

Johnny

At least it sounds like your situation has dramatically improved since your post last week! :gimme:

I would concentrate on your clutch, have you gapped the end float bit properly? Or could be a bit of air in hydraulics?

That bolt that the clutch arm is leaning on, shouldnt there be a gap there?

Unlock (4) and wind back some.

Remove (1)

Pull (2) until end of travel then set (3) to 20thou

let go of (2)

spin inner (4) up to casing, back it off 4 flats. Lock outer nut to it.

Reattach (1)

Test in neutral that the engine revs don't dip when you press the clutch in fully.

If there is still not enough travel you can back (4) off 1 flat at a time an additional few flats.

Thanks Vasi

Will give it a go. Should there be a gap where the scre thing comes out of the housing that fits upto the arm?

Yes as I say when the arm is at full stretch gap should be about 20thou, this sets the return stop.

You mean setting the gap, or the whole thing?

For setting the gap, do you have feeler guages? You just slide a 20thou (20 thousands of 1 inch = 0.020) guage in the gap and then tighten.
