reversing light switch

I got one from the mini show, and i thought id get one because wouldnt mind my reversing lights to work. but today i went to go and fit it and in the gear box at the end of the rod found the hole where it should go and there was no thred in the hole. i dont understand did i get the wrong one or something? is there other types of switches also where can i get them from did a search on mini spares couldnt find anyting

It goes in the selector housing, not in the actual gearbox?

It goes in the side of the housing, not the end. There is an untapped drilling in the end that you may be confusing it with but this is for a switch from a very rarely fitted system that most cars don't have, transmission controlled ignition advance. No-one has that.

It goes in the side of the housing, not the end. There is an untapped drilling in the end that you may be confusing it with but this is for a switch from a very rarely fitted system that most cars don't have, transmission controlled ignition advance. No-one has that.

(That means you have to put it in reverse, or a gear, to start the car)

Personally, I can't answer this as I don't actually have reversing lights on my car :gimme:
