Hi guys.
I´ve been looking at most of the "final drive" topics and couldn´t find an answer for my trouble so I´ll give it a try and made a new post.
I´m rebuilding the good'old 1275cc preA+ from my 1275GT and the next step is the gearbox.
Minispares rebuild kit is on it's way and thought I could lower the FD while I´m at it.
Anyway the question is, since the car has a standard 3.44 FD (so with a 62/18 - crown wheel/pinion tooth) can I install a 61/19 for a 3.211:1 FD in the same housing?
If so, does it require a handfull of mods?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Had problems with the layshafts, diff pins (not hardened - or at least not as hard as OEM stuff!) and baulkrings in these kits. - You'll prob need other bits too...Minispares rebuild kit is on it's way and thought I could lower the FD while I´m at it

Same as Dave, had some issues with the layshafts a few years back..
Nowadays I only use competition grade layshafts and Moly-diff pins. I've not had any issues with the MS baulks I've used...
If you're rebuilding the box, I would suggest you put a Central oil pickup in there while you're about it...
on the subject of layshafts, if your original one is still in good shape, then re-use it...

Thank you both for your kind information.
There were no problems with the gearbox when the engine was running, though all these years have surely left its mark.
So I thought of buying that Minispares rebuild kit since it´s not that expensive and I need to do everything I can before the engine gets back in the car.
I woun´t be using this car for any type of racing so I guess it will have a easy life.
Nevertheless I appreciate those hints and will be looking for a toughger layshaft (If needed, ok got that) and diff. pin.
Yes, central pick up pipe it´s on its way
Thanks again for your trouble.
Regards,
Nuno
