Im fed up with the C**p wiring in my car so have decided that a new loom is the only way to sort things for definite, but have a couple of questions.

1. What would people upgrade from the normal loom to make it better and last a longer? any more fuses inline? better wire? connectors? etc

2. Is it a good idea to use 2 fuse boxes instead of one to decrease the load on it?

3. How easy would it be to use an mpi fuse box and mount it inside?

Thanks

When I rebuilt my 72', over 5 years ago now, I used an brand new loom, and replaced the original std 2 way fusebox with two 5 way (Blade) fuse boxes... one which controlled all the 'permanent live' connections and one for the non permanent...

This meant I could reduce the size of the fuses for certain circuits.

An MPI fuse box is specific to the MPI loom and has a vast array of fuses which you will never be able to use...

The only thing I would say is, I've started to have electrical issues with my 72, and it's very obvious that some of the loom is starting to oxidise

mpi fuse box!! possibly very diffivcult! i made my own loom and got an 8 fuse holder and i use evcery one, main power in to 1 side, then fuse, then switch of whatever im powering and then the light or motor, etc, i found wipers a challenge but the rest is pretty simple!

I think a good OE wiring loom would be fine, but perhaps fit something better than the in-line fuses and bullett connectors?

Anyway i've heard this firm is pretty good:-

so a new loom with 2 5 blade fuse boxes, i have a 4 blade one at the moment, would be fine and get rid of all my gremlins. I think ill be getting one from autosparks as I can get the wiring for my spot lights already integrated into it instead of cutting a new loom straight away

would it not be possible just to use the mpi fuse box and put my own wires and connectors in? so basically just use the actual "box"

Do you have an MPi fuse box???

to be honest the MPi fuse box is bart of the loom, as is the later SPi fusebox. To use one you will need the special spade connectors for the box and totaly butcher your loom so much so it would probibly be easier to make your own loom.

Just go the route everyone else has suggested, fit a blade fuse box that is almost a direct replacement for the original. Add another for any extras such as air horns spot lamps and the likes.
