you could try something like this pioneer unit, it costs less than the alpine but has many of the same features and that funky organic display.

I'd highly rate any pioneer unit especially for reliabilty and style, I've currently got a sony and had a pioneer previously which was a lot better quality. When i change the sony one i'll get another pioneer definately. If its looks you're after then its down to you're own taste. I'm not a big fan of the alpine units just because of how they look, you can spend £300 on one and it doesn't look any different to a £100 one.

got that alpine one and im more than pleased with it! im not bothered about silly graphics etc as after all its a cd player and meant for listening to. i can tel alpine have put the money into developing sq as it kicks the C**p out of my old kenwood 1!. best feature is u can set every speaker/amp up individually and set withing what frequencys the treble and bass boosts are in.

Althought the looks are not to everyone's tastes, I do feel that Alpine units are exceptional. You really get your money's worth. I mean, have you ever read a (proper) review of an Alpine unit that said it was C**p? Nah, didn't think so.
Alpine is teh r0×0r.

indeed, I have the 9828RB in mine, an awesome unit - plus price match from work got it quite cheap too. The only qualm I have with it is the remote control I had with the old head unit (7874RB) doesn't work with it. Good choice though, excellent quality, good sound, good looking (but subtle), and good features.
