Hi, on going problems with my car which i have now narrowed down to one thing.

I've just put a full charge battery in the back of my car and the instant it is linked up (no keys in the ignition) there is the noise of someone using a power drill coming from my engine bay. Im currently trying to get a video so i can show what i mean but the batteries of my video cam are flat at the moment

im going to try and find the source of the noise one more time but its bloody scary, it sounds like something's spinning 1000x too fast and is about to blow up!

any ideas?

It could the starter motor I guess? Maybe the solenoid is shorting somehow and it's just spinning on it's own without engaging?

What age car is it?

You havent seen any midgets with a tool bag ranning round your car?

okay this is very very spooky, i went out, took a video of the noise etc came upstairs to upload the video and my friend called.


so i connected the battery again to show him the problem, this time no sparks from the battery, no powerdrill noise and the car has decided to start for the first time in a month!

And now its starting every time!!!! What the hell could be the problem?

The starter solenoid may need replacing.

my car makes this noise when its in neutral (its and automatic) my dad seems to think its the alternator shifting?
