i bought a 1972 mini as my next project.

But on the v5 it says manufactur BLMC, which i believe is British Layland Motor Coperation.
but there is no model name. i tried doing a serch for it on the dvla thing but it cant find it.

I guess its a mini 1000 as it says engine size on th v5 is 998 cc.

anyone know why it hasn't got a model name???

from 1969 to 1979 the basic round nose mini had two different "model" names.

they were simply "Mini 850" and "Mini 1000" depending on engine size, so i guess yours is a Mini 1000.

after that...

from 1979 to 1980 the Mini 850 was available as the "Mini City" or the "Mini 850 super delux".
the 850 engine was discontinued in September 1980.

from 1979 to 1980 the Mini 1000 became the "Mini 1000 super" and then in 1980 you could by the "Mini City" or the "Mini 1000 HL" both with a 998cc engine.

in April 1982 they were renamed "Mini City E" and the "Mini 1000 HLE".

in September 1982 the 1000 HLE was renamed "Mini Mayfair"

yeah thats what i think it is a mini 1000, plus it has remote change insted of the magic wand type which i think they still fitted to 850's in 72.
just wieard why they havent put a model on the log book.

he doesnt know that Enzo Ferrari only drove the mini. He was driven in any other car.

yeah, i don't know what a Mini Sol is

around the late 70's and early 80's minis were just usually known as Minis so i'm not surprised that that's all it says on the V5 doc's.

the names i gave above are the official titles of the cars but they were very rarely used.

follow the list above and it will tell you what your car is.

actually a good example of this is the limited edition names. official names are:

Mini neon, Mini British open classic, Mini Italian job, Mini Rio.

but some time in 1994 they stopped adding the mini prefix and you got;

sidewalk, Equinox, cooper 35, Paul smith

no one would say they own a Mini Italian job but that's it's official title.

i have a mini 1971 and that just states mini 1000 on the log book. it (is) a 998 honestly. not sure about model names but where have u got mini sol from? mine also has a badge on saying mini special but dont think is anything to do with what the car origainally built as.

mini 1000 is the term for a 998cc and 850 is really 848 i think.

they just round it up, like the 1.3i cooper, it's really 1275cc.

Mini sol came from a question in another topic.

when changing info on your log book ie, color, engine number or when you do a convertable could you change the model name as well ? example, mini to mini convertable or mini light van to mini pickup

I'd imagine so, but it probably would be inspected by a DVLA official (or whatever their called) first?
