First time using this garage but they seem like friendly people. Think this is a fair price?

Engine oil and coolant leak from back of block
front down pipe bracket adrift, blow from down pipe joint.
O/S/R wheel bearing needs new
Both rear shock absorbers leaking
(i have shocks ready to replace these)
slight play in both front wheel bearings - tighten?

They've quoted me 170 including labor, think this is a fair price?

That seems a fair price to me, with the front wheel bearings unless the hub nut is loose, then it is new bearings(25.00 a side). To fit the rear shocks the petrol tank will need to be moved, when you take it in try and take it nearly empty to make it easier.

That seems like a very good price, where are they?

I'd do the shocks and sort the blowing exhaust myself. £170 would buy me many play things for El Gordo......and I'm cheap.

Not a bad price, considering the moving of the fuel tank to do the rear shocks. Seems OK to me.

Sure you don't want to have a go yourself? It's all relatively easy stuff and you could save yourself some money if you've got a toolset????

As above, not that difficult DIY jobs.. but then again 170's not bad either, saves getting your hands dirty..

As for the front bearings, make sure they use the right ones for your car if they do need to change them.... Disk braked models should use timken bearings ( tapered rollers ) and not ball bearings.

additional, dont like the sound of the coolant leak from back of block though... I make the assumption that they are only investigating where it comes from, rather than fixing... if they are fixing it too.. then 170's excellent as could be a head gasket.

coolant leak could also be the leak of pipe, for the water pump. so id say let them do it,

as the guys say the jobs there aint hard to do, and you could save your sele some money.

depends on how quick you want the car back on the road.

also check with them to make sure they tell you if they are going to do anything else, so they dont charge you more in the end

I also recommend getting grease pumped into the suspension components too, because that slight play up front could be due to the ball-joints?

coolant leak is almost certainly from down pipe as they said the manifold was fine.

i think i'll do the shocks myself, get them to do the rest.

If the garage told you this run for the hills and never go back. There is no coolant in the exhaust system! Coolant leak from the back of the block area could be a pump gasket, bypass hose if you have one, drain plug if you have one, core plug, head gasket or bottom hose but not in any way the down pipe or manifold! It could be the inlet manifold if it's an SPi but never the exhaust.

Okay, all i know is i fitted a new manifold but couldn't get the link pipe bracket on properly, i guess that was what they thought the blowing was.

Aslong as it doesn't toll up to over 170 im fine, i've told them i'll do the shocks myself :D
