I'm having a b*stard of a time with my '88 Mayfair - runs like a dream and then stutters and drops revs, stalls and won't re-start. Had mobile mechanic tell me it was the points and condenser (it wasn't, I'm not that stupid) and last time I got an RAC-mechanic mate out to help. Engine has compression, fuel and as strong a spark as it will ever get. RAC bloke reckoned it was a worn dizzy driveshaft, but I've since found out it is unheard of for this to be bad enough for the dizzy to twist and knacker the timing. I'm on the brink of buying a new dizzy, but first want to check whehter the dizzy has been off and not been properly re-fitted, ie. the dog on the shaft hasn't properly located back in and it has been working on friction, hence the twisting, etc, etc.
Any other ideas anyone?
Cheers,
Paul
