dizzy??

i have a dm2 dizzy on my 998. i i know there ment to have a 25d on a 72 998 i think.
is this an upgrade?? and will it help or am i better off going back to standard??

i have no idea but thats what is fitted to my engine.
it also has the numbers 40648k, BN 276861.
im trying to find out what it is.

The DM2 is not an upgrade. Strictly speaking it's a regression. The DM2 was used on A-series prior to the Mini. I've been told they were used on the very first Minis but I've never seen one installed on one. You can use almost any dizzy made for an A-series prior to the A+. There's nothing wrong with the DM2. If you're looking for a replacement that just drops in you could use the 25D4 or the 45D4. I'm sure there are others but the 25 and 45 were both used on the Mini over the years.

EDIT: I looked through my notes. I didn't find the 40648K. I did find the A/B/D/E/F/H models. The limited data I have says they were used on Austin 850 A-series engines in around 1960. In addition to the numbers you posted you may also find a 3 or 4 digit number stamped near the 40648K. That number represents the week and year the distributor was built.

thanks very much for the info, i was just wondering as i had never heard of this distributer before.
i think ill change it back to the 25d then, as i have one in good condish.
