Evenin all! After my best ever MOT fail, i have a bit of welding to do, no probs as im a welder. But I've never done any bodywork welding before. The drivers side outer sill has two holes in it, one around the jacking point, and one at the very front.

So, what thickness of plate are the sills made of, and what thickness should i repair it with? We use mostly 3mm-6mm, but i think there maybe some 2mm about. And we use 1mm wire, is this thin enough?

This is only temporary, ill do it properly in the summer!

Where do you live? My mini needs welding... ;)

I can't help you though, I'm a woman. Some people on here seem to have a problem with us and cars =]| :D

.6mmwire for sure and like tin plate 18 or 20 gauge to you, but the stuff you use is great for roll cage applications

make some sills from the 6mm stock you have at work and you'll not need to do them again for another 100 yrs. haha

hi guys was tempted by the 6mm, but what with me and the brunel style sill on the same side, it might lean a bit.
jobs done now tho, used some 1.5mm plate. i also had to put a 4" x 3" patch on the inner sill, which i welded inside and out. ended up replacing about a 3rd of the sill with new plate. it took me 4 1/4 hours which i thought wasnt too bad, as ive never done any bodywork before. and never again!

thanks for the help
