driving home from work the other day and i noticed that there was something odd coming from a gap in the carpet, when i was in traffic i pulled it out to discover it was a mushroom growing. first thoughts

S**T must be damp under the carpet!

I pulled up the carpet to find insulation was soaking. no damp came through carpet because there is a water proof layer between them.

haven't had a chance to investigate it further, but can anyone give me some pointers as to what it might be, please.

has anyone had the same problem with damp carpets.

Your best bet is to take all the carpet and insulation out, put it in your garage, or somewhere that it can dry out. Cover the floor of your car with newspaper, dry it out. Then look around for placed where the water might be coming in. Rusty patches are tell-tale signs.

The water has probaly got in through the window seal! if you look when its wet the water collects in the corners and with time it seeps through the seal and gets into your carpet! thats why we took our carpets out!

As above, most likely is the windscreen seal. But do check for rusty bits, holes in the floor, water in the doors (blocked drain holes), good door seals etc. etc.

We had the same problem with the project car, w/b_dtm_man and myself stripped all the carpet out and sponged out all the remaining water. The red carpets and underneath bits were soaked and ruined. This is due to the scuttle panel having a gigantic hole in it and it being sat outside under a tree for 18 months. Its now stripped out, patched up and in a dry secure garage.

Well after having my scuttle sorted water drips in somehow. It has never done it before it drips into the open compartment thing. Cant be the window seal, because when we put it in we didn't cut it, hence 3 hours to get the windscreen in. :nugget:

You should NEVER cut the rubber when refitting the glass, you can buy a split rubber, but I would never use one.

To check for leaks, remove carpets, sit inside and get some one to hose the car down, with a fine spray.

Its important to start at the bottom and slowly work to the roof. Try spraying under the car first.


Also make sure its not engine coolant, ie are you using any water?

Also check if its dirty water , if so it could be water splashed up off the wheels when you are moving and not rain ,
A likly place for this is the hoses that come through the bulkhead and into your eyeball vents , they rust around there.

yeah mine too, i put a new rubber in with some sealastick and it still pisses in, i'm gonna try a wide rubber seal rather than the standard when i get round to it and see if that works.
