Ive chucked my carpet because after gettin it dried out it stinks. i'll buy a new one at Brooklands later this month which gives me a week or 2 to find the leak/s!
But how is it layed? i know theres clips at the front but what about the sides below the door, and if i get a set which covers the box section under the seat?
which leads me to seals..... is the carpet meant to be tucked under the door seal?!

i could just throw it in but rather it was done nicely

cheers

The carpet is just layed in, yes it is supposed to be under the door seal

You will find most aftermarket carpet sets need to be 'fiddled' with a bit to fit, and the side pieces are glued to the panels... however, if you want absolute easy to fit, look original carpets, then the only solution is Newton Commercial...

now i'm not saying this is the right way to do it but this is how i do it.

take out the front seats, leaving the brackets on the cross-member

the car should have big thick foam pads at either end of the toe board (you know the bit i mean). these are held in with clips. leave these on (nice and tight) and then clue the carpet pieces to these using impact adhesive (don't use too much) then place the toe board piece in this should just sit there but may need trimming in places.

then move to the cross-member, whether you have a full width piece or two end sections, just stick these on with impact adhesive (not too much). for the full width piece you will need to trim it around the seat brackets, dont fit the brackets over the carpet !!!!

then glue on the inner sill pieces (not too much glue) remembering to trim a hole for the seat belt mount if necessary.

now you can trim around the door opening with a sharp knife, i leave the carpet right up to the edge of the metal and tuck it under the door seal (wait till the glue is dry first)

how you have the two main floor pieces left, these just sit in place but you may need to do some trimming around the hand brake, seat-belt mounts and gear lever.

i find that a roll if felt sound insulation under the carpet is good for cutting down noise, just cut some pieces using the carpet as a template but make the edges a bit smaller (dont put this under the glued bits)

if you have a rear parcel self carpet in the set then you need to take the back seat out to put this in.
(two screws in the boot and two behind the rear cushion)

this is a good chance to put two more bits of sound proofing under the seat, one under the cushion and one behind the back rest (weave it through the three suport bars of the seat back)

how refit the seats, sit inside, close the doors and get high on the smell

the carpets they are selling are standard off the shelf type ,that will fit ok witth a bit of tweaking
for origanality use newton commercial. (not cheap ) some places a more luxery type,
or lioke me you can get a good quailty remnant and lay yourself
whatever type you fot buy some spray carpet adhesive.
