hey guys, iv just bought some trailer connectors for my flip front but im unsure of which wiring to use....

i need some 7 core stuff obviously but can i get it with different strength wire, ie, it needs to be of a higher rating for the headlights than the indicators etc etc...

thanks

If you are using a trailer socket I would use a type S rather than a type N as these have terminals rated fairly high for running a caravan fridge and battery. The type S socket is only intended to run basic lighting. The terminals may be electrically identical in each but I'm not sure. Having said that I personally wouldn't use a towing socket at all. In any case you need cable rated to at least 15 amps for the dipped and main headlamp circuits if they are paired, or 10 amps if they are on seperate circuits for left and right. The same goes for fogs and spots. The thickest cable won't be any of these though, it will be the earth. The earth needs to be able to run the combined load of everything remember. It should be wired to the heavyest terminal in the plug which I think is the central one in a towing plug. I wouldn't bother with 7 core trailer cable if I were you, you won't be using more than about a foot of it in one piece before it starts seperating off to the lamps so you'll only end up stripping most of the sheath off it. Buy some proper cables from somewhere like Vehicle Wiring Products or Auto Electrical Supplies. You will be able to get the right colours (which 7 core won't have) and the right capacity for each circuit.

Agreed dont use 7 core

You said last night that you still have that wiring loom, if you split it down and use the standard cables which will a be the rated correctly and B be the right colours

cheers
