point taken

If it is seen as a breach of copyright to put the paul smith logo on a car with the paul smith logo on it already I will remove the decals without complaint

maybe a little moaning though.

OK, I'll own up. It was me (there may have been others too) who mentioned this to the mods but I wasn't saying anything about the logos being put on your car at all, I think they look great and are very well done. I was concerned that Acidminis has sold you these decals with someone else's trademark on and is advertising them for sale on our forum which could get us into trouble (I know a lot of people don't think breach of copyright is theft but it is, I work in an industry that is all about intellectual property and copyright theft hurts me personally by limiting the amount of business I can do). We already tread a very fine line here regarding the various Mini trademarks. Making them is one thing but selling or advertising them is entirely different.

I do like the look of what you've done though. I love the Mini Paul Smith and yours looks great. In fact I think you should give it to me as it will match my cufflinks and stuff quite well.

:-

On a serious note:

What Dan has said is all true and I agree with him 100%. It's not any form of moaning it's more about giving people a 'heads up' about potentially breaking IP laws.

Well said Dan! :xxx:

Thanks for the offer but if its all the same to you I will keep my mini.

I was not suggesting that What I had done was in any way legal, nor do I suggest other people do it. On the other hand I like them and think they suit the car quite well (unsuprisingly) and will be putting the etched glass ones in at some point in the near future. there is a nice place where the previous garage to sell the car removed the P.S. logo from the rear window. Until I can get a replacement rear window from a scrapped P.S. these will have to do.

Hope this clears up any misunderstanding.

Rodders.

I believe acid minis has already been talking to "Paul smith" (the company) about this after I advised him a few weeks ago. I think these are a one off as he was declined permission. Hope this clears things up. (I'm sure he won't print anymore) :- cough cough

Rodders, clearly if you have a Paul Smith then putting Paul Smith stuff on it is OK...the problem may be that the maker of the Paul Smith logo copies ie acidminis maybe breaking copyright..I think that is what Dan is trying to point out.

I think you will find that Paul Smith won't care if it's going on a Paul Smith Mini.... They will still want their fee for using their logo. Have you seen how much the Paul Smith bonnet badge is from Minispares...???!!! You would only really put one of those on a Paul Smith Mini...

That's what I am trying to point out....could you say that it is like buying stolen goods to buy one of these stickers then?

No, i wouldn't have thought so. It is illegal to make them and sell them, but buying them isn't against the law. After all, it's not illegal to buy fake branded stuff off EBAY, or on holiday is it...? If people want to make these, then thats up to them, but i wouldn't advertise the fact on a public forum...!!!

Ok! Been busy putting together Acidminis Website, adverts for MiniWorld etc, etc.....and missed what has been going on. Firstly I did't produce the Signatures and then advertise them here so Rodder's could buy them, Rodder's saw what I was producing and asked if I could make them. I sorted them and at the same time enquired at 'Paul Smith's' as to whether I could reproduce the Signatures for Paul Smith owners ONLY!

This is the answer:-

Dear Acidminis

Your below email has been forwarded to me by our Press Department.

Our logo is a registered Trademark and we cannot give permission for this to be used. I understand the mini may already have the logo on the vehicle, but this was done with our consent. Please can you advise your customer that you do not have permission to reproduce the trademark.

Regards,

Anita Rana

By the time they had replied Rodder's had received them and fitted and posted the photo's here. As for making money out of them, by the time your set them up and the labour charge involved and the fact they are 13cmx3cm off a 1metre wide roll I have to pay for wastage. Rodder's had only two in each colour, that's lot of waste to pay for!

Acidminis is about providing you the customer with what you want, I will produce customised items for you. Take a look at my website www.acidminis.com or my MiniWorld advert in this months (July) issue and you will not see anything to do with selling 'Paul Smith' Signatures apart from a picture of Rodder's Mini. I am also designing and developing my very own produces including Dash boards that Steve@retrodash is doing for me and a set of wheel arches that also become part of two additional bodykits. So it won't be long before I'm have people copying my products!!!
