i went to change my spark plugs today to the fancy 4 point bosch ones. because my car is running like hell and i notice that the 2nd and 3rd plugs are black and sooty so i take it there runnin very rich however the 1st and 4th are absolutely fine. what could be the problem.?

You got to be guessing that there is something wrong with the exhaust valves or inlet valves maybe the rockers are not adjusted right.

Fit NGK plugs matey, they are well proven to be the best in Minis. Bosch or any other type of split point plug are pretty much a gimmick and even if they do work well in some type of combustion chamber it isn't the cardioid type in the A series.

NGK, all my shop sells, the only things I would use.

Also due to the design of manifold on mini's (apart from twin cars) the two outer cylinders are always richer, the inner two are slightly leaner.

But his middle two are black and sooty, if they were lean then they would be whitish....

yeh the inner too are rich the outer two are fine
