Again, anything is possible with time, skills, and money:

Get measuring and see if it'll fit, if it fits anywhere,... then think about how to mount it,... if you can mount,.. think about how you'll be able to get power to the wheels, if you can do that,... build it.

Been done over in Aus or NZ. The car was a track car though, and had been widened (either 3" or 6", can't remember which) and think it may have also been lengthened.

Why an RX8 engine?
I remember a guy in japan was putting a RX7 engine in his mini but i dont know if he ever finished the project as the link to his website went dead. he was close to finishing though.

It's ben done a few times. the engine is very compact as well as very clever (you can increase tha capacity by adding another section onto it) and with the turbo'd versions can make big power. You woudl be best trying to find a MK1 RX7 gearbox/ diff to run it through as all the others ran on big rims and gearing would be an issue. Would sound mental though. A cheaper source of an engine would be a mk2 RX7 turbo (assuming you want a turbo) as they are pretty unpopular now and don't fetch too much money

as an rx7 owner, trust me when i say you'll forever kick urself if u spend the amount needed to put a feckin rotary in a mini.

for all the fd lovers, heres mine

and yes IMO its the best lookin car to come from japan but christ, im havin a mare with mine and it only been rebuilt less than 2k ago - with 3mm apex seals and titanium rotor tips, same as in the renasis rx8 engine.

heres the engine. it'll fit in a round nose, but its the transmission u gotta worry about, its all HUGE!!! the sheet that is printed on 4 pieces of a4 and selotaped together is the diagram for the vacuum piping (commonly called the rats nest for obvious reasons) i decided to replace which is all located under the inlet manifold. the rx8 engine doesnt have as many vacuum and boost pipes as most of those pipes are for the sequential turbo control, but if a rotary had to go in a mini (and i DID think about it) then itd have to be the 13b in the fd3s that went in because the turbos *******in rock!!! 1x small turbo + 1 x big turbo = fun fun fun, and mucho sideways action :-

if u do decide to do it, GOOD LUCK!

RX7's are absoloutely amazing and its my dream car, i really do hope of owning one. But like previously said,it is possible with the time and skill. Have a look on www.16vminiclub.com but i would advise not postiong on there unless you have fully read thier sticky topics and although they dont have a mazda section they have vauxhall, honda, suzuki, toyota and a "others" section which may be of use to you.

Go have a look!

Just so you know, that car's the sh*t. I love FD's, thought the later series8's are the best. rotaries are cool, but you better be a mechanic if you want to maintain one well (directed to people thinking of an FD or rotary, not you). just thought i'd let you know!

If your going to do it, then i would recomend you get the best condition engine you can get. They are fantastic engines, but I know a few years ago, getting the engines reconditioned was mega bucks. Mainly because there were not many companys in the U.K that delt with them. Although this might be cheaper now that the cars are imported and sold more readily :goaway:

Cheap car tax to as there normally 1300cc :goaway: :-

sod that, buy a the cheapest blown up one you can and then rebuild it urself, u can never really gauarantee a rebuilt rotary, if the seals and rotors etc have been replaced, something else could go aswell and then the rest WILL follow. The money you save on buying a blown engine will give you enough to buy a rebuild kit and new rotor housings etc that you'll need.

the rebuild kits from atkins rotary in the states (i name them because they helped me out with advise a couple of times and seem very friendly and are a family run business i think) sell their rebuild kits on ebay and start around $1000 plus shipping to the uk. if my fd is blown, i'll either rebuild myself or sell it. theres only like 25 or so moving parts in a rotary engine, u just need the balls to do the rebuild, and me and a mate have already said we'd do it if i wanted/needed to. you can buy the rebuild dvd on ebay for pittance and it goes thru step by step how to rebuild a rotary and some also say about modifiying the exhaust and inlet ports ('street port' to mental 'bridge port'!) to get better air flow - id defo do this if i rebuilt mine. but then if ur really thinkin about doing this, the loom is *******in scary! ever looked at a vtec loom? think worse x 10! and you'll also need an apexi power fc ecu if u plan on modifying the engine. buying that will set you back 400quid, then getting a rotary specialist to set it up for you will cost a fair wack.
