Hello all,

Got a problem the my 998 stage one Mini, it ticks over just fine after the choke is in but not warmed up yet, but when its warmed up ticks over at about 1200rpm? Would fitting a 38HIF I have lying around help things and if so is it a straight swop?

Cheers Nige

Alright Nige,

A HIF38 would be a suitable carb yes, but what do you have on their at the moment? Have you just fitted the stage one kit? If so, you may need another needle for the carb...(as opposed to new carb)

There is a fast idle adjustment as well i do believe..?

You can adjust the idle speed using a screw on the carb, its located on the right side with its 'head' recessed slightly facing upwards (Haynes will give you a better idea!)

Once the engine is warmed up (this is important), adjust the idle to your desired level. Think mine is about 1000rpm or just under which it sits at happily once warm.

Its currently got the standard 1 1/2 SU, the tickover screw is currntly screwed right back so its not actually touching anything.

Your looking at the wrong screw, do you have a Haynes manual handy ? It shows you the idle adjustment scew on it.

The one you are looking at is the 'fast idle' adjustment that moves the throttle when you pull on the choke.

If you look top down at the carb, on the right towards you there is a big crosshead screw which is slightly recessed into the carb, that is the idle adjustment screw and the one that you need to 'screw' so to speak :w00t:
