Good point as that is what it should have.

Carbs don't make power. If you want to improve power you will have to improve the engine itself. The HS4 that you should currently have is not limiting the power in any serious way if it is setup properly so you won't see much of an improvement by changing to something else. Why does it need replacing? Carbs can be repaired or overhauled. It would only need replacing if any of the main castings were broken or very badly worn. All other parts are replaceable.

I currently have a HS2 SU and it has been severley damaged so that why im looking for a new one, the HS4 SU i think will not fit my manifold, do you have any other suggestions for a different faster carburettor that will not ruin my engine
thanks dan

Fit an SU HS4, get it running and then take it to a a mini friendly rolling road to tune it in. (this is a MUST).

Carbs can't increase power... but they can take it away.

why and how are you so sure its an HS2? it would have originaly been an HS4 so it must have been changed at some point.
if it is an HS2 and damaged then you would be far better off with an HS4 anyhow, and having it properly set up on a rolling road. the carb will not give you power, but if its too small as an HS2 would be then it will restrict the engine slightly..

i had problems with my hs4, so i changed it to a hif38 and it sorted out the uneven idle it had. i'd defiantly pick the hif 38
