33 EJB is the Monte Carlo winning Works mini! I believe its insured for half a million, but that might just be a rumour.

I would imagine the value of those sorts of cars is going up all the time.

True, but don't forget all the others too!

When you think about it, the Mini really is one of a kind and could you imagine a Ford Ka or BINI achieving half of what the Mini achieved?

All that from a little car that was never really designed to take part in any form of Motorsport.

It does annoy me when people under estimate them though and I just accept the fact that their ignorant people. :D

ofcourse i no who he is, theres just that many different famous mini's i forgot which one was which!

so if the mini was never designed for motorsport, who's genius idea was it to enter it into rallying?? how did it all come about?

Well when it was a brand new fangled thing, it seams quite a few novice racing drivers took it around race circuits and on rallies like the 1960 Monte for instance. Of course all that punishment highlighted the early teething troubles like the fact the early steel wheels had a habit of cracking and the gearbox synchro's weren't quite strong enough.

Of course Issigonis was horrified that his little creation was being used in such a fashion and he wasn't amused when Alec Pitts was seen finishing the 1960 Monte with his Red Mini looking slightly diamond shaped because it had collided with a lorry en route. Plus it's exhaust had fallen off too, but it actually finished the rally regardless.

Anyway John Cooper then had a go at driving a Mini and the rest is history even though Issigonis didn't want to see a sports version of his car.

Of course once the trophies starting coming in even Issigonis was mightily impressed and I don't think even he could believe that little car would achieve all that fame and glory.

Definitely something to be proud of.

I'm almost too nervous to make this post!!!

Here we go ... this is my first post on the board ... I have just completed this rally restoration project!

MINIs are absolutely the best automobiles I have ever driven! I love the vintage Minis equally as well! I track a 2006 MCS and rally the 33EJB replica! Loads of fun! ^_^ What a heritage England has! :errr:
