Hi People,

I recently (well, over christmas!) re-skinned my doors using genuine panels and I've just realised that the holes for the wing mirrors don't have any threads to accept the bolts that hold them on?

What's the normal way to sort this out, I'm thinking it's either going to have to be riv-nuts (not sure how/where to get these) or i've got a set of Tex stainless mirrors that use a plastic mounting 'plinth' type thing that i could epoxy to the door...

Any thoughts appreciated!

Chris

I would riv-nut them. This is what is done in the factory, and it looks nice and original. If you just brought the doors to a bodyshop they'd be able to stick a couple in. If not, could you not use nuts and bolts with nylocs? there are cut outs behind for access.

I have no threads in my door skin either.

I just used nuts on the back of the mirror bolts. Was quite fidly, but it's do-able. I masking taped the nuts into a small spanner and slid the spanner down between the skin and did them up.

C'mon Chris, your an engineer!

Rivnuts are standard as said above, and the best option by far. The correct nuts are available from Mini specialists as they are a standard part. Then you just need a fitting tool. They are very useful for all kinds of fixings on the car, thay make a much better way of holding the grille on for one thing compared to the self tappers.
