could be either. or a dodgy earth.... you can get a cheap battery and go from there.... or see if a parts place have a battery tester.

Well I am thinking dodgy earth or wires (its been bodged badly) Alternator not chargeing properly or battery, or all of the above.

(sigh) the joys of Minis done cheap!

Nursey has fitted a battery, but no joy.

Ignition lights come on, but no joy, not even a click.

So i had a thought about this, its had a Pre-Verto engine fitted (cheap owners again) and as such runs a Starter Solnoid.

I can't get to look at it till tomorrow, so dont know if its loose wires, fuses or even a dodgy solnoid.

Any more ideas?

Could very well be the solenoid. Try the connections on the starter/solenoid. I had similar problem years ago and it was the solenoid. Try shorting it out and see if the car will start. Could also be an earth problem somewhere. The lights going out could be connected but check the connectors on the fuse box are clean.

Well i got her to press in the connectors one by one (via phone) and after the first one, it started straight up.

So its one of the following:

Fuse Box (serious Bodge)

Solnoid

Starter

Duff Battery

Alternator not chargeing battery

Something being on (interior light for instance)
