Hi all i just thought id ask the experts of wonderful designs for the mini on here about a problem im having in Aus. The laws here do not allow me to have a 6 point rollcage with the door bar as it impares getting in and out of the car plus the a pillar legs to too apparently :- . All the is alowed in a road use vehicle is a rear cage then with the B and C pillar bars.

My question is...can i still keep my design of rear mounting the engine because i have a bad feeling it will really effect the strength of the rear frame...also if i were to weld a bar from the top of the rear hoop/B pillar straight down to the floorjust behind the seats like this: Attached File  untitled.bmp   85.76K   226 downloads

would it help with keeping the strength that would be lost without the front of the cage?

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :goaway:

cheers

The rear cage front legs are so far forward that any bar facing forward will block your door way

i dont think you'll be able to keep a mini rear subframe if you're having a rear engine. have a look at some of the designs on the z-cars website to give u ideas. as for front cages im sure you could have one but it would not be by convential design, maybe by building your own cage and welding it in to fit very closely to the cars original a and b posts and then on thru the bulkhead to the front subframe mounts. that way its more of a spaceframe and it is the cars strength, would that be allowed!

ive gotten most of my design from the zcars and i bought the ultimate mini builder dvd which helped but by not being able to have a pillar legs or door bars its majorly weakened my ideas. i was thinking of having the front hoop just go striaght accross and atach onto the roof above the front windscreen if thats even possible? the ;aws here really suck in terms of regestering vehicles. We cant even get bike engine cars road legal without having to pay $7000 or somethign stupid like that for some emmission tests :'(

Hmmm, could you get away with doing a bar from the base of the B pillar along the sill? Not sure how you can move the A pillar bar though, maybe have it follow the windscreen down the A pillar then sneak under the dash?

thats actually a good idea because if i can move the a pillar legs forward and make them come down behjind the dash it wouldnt restrict getting in or out of the car. nice thanks :( :)

could you not run the frame under the shell and up onto the front of the bulkhead, which would leave the "front" of the shell resting on the cage in the back? or is that just a stupid idea??!!
