Hi,

I have a standard 1995 C reg Mayfair - 998 save for a sports back box its totally standard. Is there any benefit to be had in terms of performance in fitting a twin webber instead of the standard SU?

Cheers

A webber will probably be a bit much for a standard 998. If you had headwork and a cam, then it might have some benifit for the cost.

Stick to either a single larger SU, or twin small SUs for a 998 if your going to upgrade.

Cost is negligable twin webber came with my car unfitted, so bolting it on and getting it set up wont really make that much difference as only looking for a little quicker acceleration.

in a word NOPE! not if you're looking for more bhp! the single carb u have if its in good condotion will not restrict ur engine til u near the 90bhp mark and thats a lot of work. best thing to do is fit a stage 1 kit and get the car setup on a rolling road (and have the dizzy advance curve altered to suite the engines requirments - not essential)

if you've already done that the next easiest thing to change is the cylinder head for a well modified item. but the item that will release the most power from your 998 is a cam change, often not easy to do at all with the engine in place!

In that case, go down your local RR with a set of tools have a run with each on and see what comes out on top.

Twin Webbers means two seperate Webber carburettors which are each twin choke carbs, using only one choke from each on a Mini. If the car came with a set of proper twin Webbers, sell them as they are worth quite a bit. Neither a single or twin Webber carb will be any use on a 998 but you will make your local petrol station very happy indeed if you do decide to fit them as your fuel consumption will go up massively.
