Need new pump for my 998, because my engine was rescued from a mini that was in a front end smash, so the dizzy had it, and the water pump has a crack near the alternator, lol.
Any way the large impellor water pump shown in the link below is a bit cheaper, and its in stock on the minispares site, and the small one isnt in stock
http://www.minispare....aspx?pid=34895
only thing is, it says it needs a mod to fit a 998,
does anyone know what it involves?
and is it worth it?

Large impellor pump will fit fine in most cases, some very early small block engines don't have enough clearance inside the jacket for the impellor but I think that is limited to 850 blocks. It might mean that the bypass hose outlet is blanked off and needs drilling out but there are far better ways to setup the bypass which are less unreliable.

i think the pump has a bypass hose outlet drilled out on the website.
my mini engine is from a '87 998, but the car was previoulsy fitted with a metro engine, so has different plumbing, namely the bottom hose.
I have fitted the sandwich plate with the outlet on the back from the mg plumbing, as i fitted the bottom hose i had lying around.
So i kinda have two bypass pipes? am i roght in thinking this?
and will i do any damage?

If you want to be pedantic you don't need to move masses of coolant thro the system. You need to move enough. Any more is just using power of the engine.
Although that's only really a concern on race engines were every last bhp is to be squeezed from the engine.

i dont mind which pump i get as long as it fits, and does the job
i just didnt want to buy a pump that werent want to fit, wen if i wait a few days i can get the proper job
can i blank of the bypass hose if i use the sandwich plate?

Not sure, but it may be that the casting on the new pump stands slightly proud of the top of the block and hence needs filing down to give a slight clearance between the pump and the cylinder head.
If you are fitting the pump to a built engine it will be obvious, if the head is off you run the risk of the head not bolting down properly when replaced.

Oh yeah I've heard of that happening with the 998. Isn't it to do with having an A series head on an A+ block or something like that and the clearances being slightly different?
As GraemeC says you should check for this. Doesn't always happen but it can do and is easily fixed. Make sure you fit the water pump dowels when checking it for clearance.

aah cheers everyone, i thought it may be a daft thing like cutting the impellor down or something. but a bit of filing i can deal with, if its needed that is
Thanks
