Hi gang i have got this problem with my mini neon 1275/1380 not sure(metro lump) with a 1 3/4 su carb
I have changed the exaust system to a stage 1 i have also fitted a cone type air filter and all new electric bits-dizzy/rotor/dizzy cap/leads/plugs and reset the valves. The problem is that the car runs ok round the doors but when you put your foot down it's not getting the fuel it needs. If you pull the choke out it goes like a rocket. I have had the carb to bits and cleaned out with no luck.I think it made it worse. the car had the problem before i fitted all the toys but not as bad. Before i did not have to pull the choke on. I have not had the car long but i think is also got a wacky cam as i can not time it up with the strobe(2 incs out from the marks)please could you help as i am running out of money on this.
thanks again :

you need to richen the mixture as sounds like its to weak hence putting chock on helps

ideally needs setting up on rolling road

i set one of my engines up thought it went fine then had it set up on rooling road they got another 15 bhp out of it and it drove loads better

hope this helps

What stig said!!!

every time you change something which alters the flow of air through the engine (filter, manifolds, head work, exhaust system) the mixture will need to be reballanced across the rev range, this isn't just as simple as moving the mixture screw about as the car may demand a richer mix at the higher end of the rev range which will require a reprofiled needle. Timing may also need playing with .

A good rolling road will get everything set to its optimum for around the £100 mark... its like having a new car!!!!!!

Can't wait to get mine done!!!!!

ive just bought my mini and it was the same as yours my mate is a mercanic he played around with the carb but it was still not working,so i took it to a rolling road he did the pressure test and my head had gone ,so you need to take it to a rolling road ,i think.
