I have looked thru the old posts and tried to remedy this situation but no luck. The indicators work as hazzards, ie no matter which way I turn the indicator switch all four come on. The vehicle is a 1979 mini 850. I have renewed the hazzard unit, the indicator (flasher )unit . Checked the fuses and the joints by the grill. They were well coroded. This car is my restoration project for my son. It has not been on the road for at least 4 years , and I dont know when the problem started. To my way of thinking the wires must cross some where causing both sets to come on ,but where? How do you check the hazzard switch, I have tried to bypass it using the bottom two connections , no change.
please help as rapidly going mad, and loosing more hair .

best guess is its the switch, try changing it, when you have power going in the switch it is allowing it to go to both sets of indicators

have sorted the problem. The light unit, behind the dash, was broken so late at night I tried to fix it.I put both indicator wires into a new unit causing a short circuit. Now how do I wire it up so that both wires will make the light flash but work as they are meant to? The original unit (bulbholder)was broken so I have bought a plastic unit from the local car spares shop, that was what caused the problem.
thanks

Oh it's a central speedo! Now I get it.

Ok, it needs to have the green/red to one terminal of the bulb and the green/white to the other. It uses the unpowered side of the indicator circuit as an earth by earthing through the various lamps on the 'wrong' side of the car. There shouldn't be enough power flowing through the repeater bulb to actually light these lamps but a short in the holder would cause a problem as you have found.
