What's the next level of stripping down an engine after taking a head off? Assuming I have an engine out of a car, I assume there's various stages between totally pulling it apart and built up. I'm buying a new engine but want to make sure it's in good working order before i put it in the car.

What kinda things would the next level of strip entail? I'm confident with stripping the head etc. but have never gone inside the engine before. Is it a steep learning curve? When does milimeter differences start becoming important? And what tools will I need?

thanks for the advice guys!

you should buy the ultimate engine builder DVD send Jordie a PM and he should be able to sort you one out...

Its a very helpfull DVD and will teach you exactly how to strip the engine down and then tells you what to look for and how to change the different parts then reassemble the whole thing.

I always start with taking the ancilleries/clutch and head off, then flip the engine upside down and work from the bottom inwards i.e.

Cheers guys, have purchased the dvd!

Just as a quick follow up, am I right in thinking that, aside from new pistons and piston rings, everything else needed for a 1380 rebore can be reused off a 1275? I've found a 1380 block, and am trying to decide whether i should buy a donor 1275 as well, or just buy the bits separately?

Also, anyone able to recommend affordable pistons for a 1380? Pistons seem to be a hard item to come across on mini websites.

The dvd tells you what is needed and what isnt.

I would use a donor as some parts you may not think about can be expensive. Bolts and little things u dont realise you'll need until you havent got one.
