From searching I know oil questions are well covered in previous posts and are so very annoying, but....

I can't find a definitive answer as to which oil for an automatic mini (I have spent a long time searching)

Is 20/50 OK for the auto gearbox? or would 10/40 be a better bet.

Just want to hear from someone with experience of changing the oil in auto's. Not trying to stir up debate from oil evangelists, just need to know what to put in.

I've used 10w/40 in my auto for about 6 months and had no problems. In fact it seemed to cure a slight slipping fault the car had when i first got it. I also found that the auto boxes like to be over filled. I use to top mine up to the 'X' of 'MAX'

Hope this helps :(

Thats great, thanks. I am planning to go for 10/40 then, unless anyone else has other recommendations?

I always ran mine on cheap 20W50. But changed it regularly. The slight overfilling advice works too.
The thicker oil is better if your Mini leaks oil a bit.

You could try this although im not sure whther it would be recommended for autos. However i use it in my manual car and it made a great deal of difference to the smoothness of the gear change, manuals also like to be overfilled (Up to X of MAX)
