I wanted to fit a new starter motor to my A+ 1275 as i suspected the old one had packed up, when I fitted the wires to where the should go sparks started flying.
I assumed I had left the ignition turned on but to my surprise the keys were out of the ignition.
I checked the wiring to make sure I hadn't mixed anything up, and all looks just as it should be - or at least as it was. lets face it the wires can only really go in a certain way due to connection types and sizes.
The sparks diminished so I completed the connections and sure enough it worked fine, turned over well and started the car on the first turn - something its never done before.
Has this happened to anyone else or do I have a problem looming?
many thanks for any feedback / help.

There is always a perminant live on the big starter wire if the battery is still conected. When you crank the engine, the ignition supplies power to the solenoid on the starter. You should have really removed the negative battery terminal when doing the work. The sparking you got is normal given that the power was still conected
