just a quick question. i know all you lot are into all the big expensive subs and what not but all i want is a bit of bass with my music, so i was thinking of buying the ripspeed subwoofer from halfords

i bought a vibe twin box from halfords and it was awesome - haggle with them for ex demo kit - I got nearly £70.00 knocked off.

Fly gear from halfords it pretty tasty too.

Always buy the best speakers you can afford and maybe consider making a box yourself - its really very straight forward.

You will need an amp with that.

If all your after is a lil bit of added bass to your sounds then that will do the job, nothing else. :P

It may be easier for you to go for an active sub.

can pick one up for under £100 now. and its all ready to plug straight into your CD player.

Don't go anywhere near the Ripspeed sub box, its rubbish. If you were looking for a bit of bass you could get the mutant sub and amp package (which includes all the cables) from halfords, mate got it de other week, about a 100 notes i think, sounds alright, not the best though.

it has a built in amp... just requires power like a normal amp would.

so how would i wire everything in? do i need another power source or do i just wire it to the cd player?

and can i not have the sub without the amp and just wire that straight through?

When you buy the Sub and Amp with a wiring kit it will come with straightforward instructions on how to wire it in.

You cannot power the Sub effectively without an Amp.

You will also knacker you head unit and subwoofer if you dont use an amp

with regard to active subs try JBL i had their bass tube with 2x8" woofers in it one was passive the other active and it wasnt ground breaking bass but was nice although check you sizes for the boot.
